Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Is good reliable hosting expensive?
This is one of those questions that get the "Sometimes, sometimes not" answer. We have worked with hosts that charge $60.00 per month for a couple hundred MB of space and a 25MB SQL database. They have been quite reliable. We have also worked with hosts that charge $1,000.00 per month for a dedicated server, $500.00 for a shared solution. They have also been quite reliable.
The main difference between most hosts is service. One host may be excellent about sending out notices regarding system upgrades, patch installation, maintenance, etc. That's why they may charge $500.00 to $1,000.00 per month. A different host may not provide this type of reporting to the customer and you may have to wait on hold for a bit longer than the other host, but that is why they may charge $60.00 per month.
There are a lot of factors to consider whren choosing a hosting provider. Things like service, available bandwidth, hardware, reliability, redundancy and recovery are but a few of the things that need to be considered.
Doesn't a website take a lot of time maintaining it?
Depends on how it is built. A website needs to be built with who is going to maintain it in mind. Most of our clients prefer the self service approach where they update all the content on the website themselves instead of paying us to perform the updates. Actually, we prefer this also. We would rather be developing sites instead of editing content and the client does not have to pay the associated costs of keep ing the site updated, they can do this themselves.
Basically we build the engine, you drive the car. We build the site with a predefined framework and you populate it with the data you want. Through an easy to use web interface, you can edit the content on the website yourself. This way you dont have to worry about an uninformed 3rd party mucking something up.
Doesnt a large database driven site cost a lot of money to develop?
The way we build the sites, the site itself isnt large. We build the framework behind the site. How large the site gets depends on how much content you put into it.
We have built website that only have a few MB of files, but hundreds of MB of data stored in a database that actually made up the website.
Can you guys develop Flash files and fancy audio/video stuff?
While we can develop those things, that is not what we specialize in. We specialize in the framework of the website and the database back-end. We have developed Flash animations and streaming audio/video though and we can do it for you.
We can take video tapes, CD-ROMs, LPs and audio cassettes and creating streaming media out of them and put them on the web.
